Qld: Legal minds to cleanse rort ridden ALP

Three high-powered legal eagles have been appointed to a Queensland ALP tribunal to
cleanse the party of rorters.

The three-member advisory panel, chaired by former South Australian Supreme Court chief
justice LEN KING QC, will investigate the Labor Party figures implicated in the Shepherdson
Inquiry.

Premier PETER BEATTIE says those who've admitted to electoral fraud or confessed to
conduct that prejudices the electoral process or the welfare of the party will be asked
to resign from the Labor Party within days.

Any member who refuses to relinquish their membership will face the scrutiny of Mr
KING, along with former New South Wales Attorney-General JEFF SHAW QC and former deputy
president of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission JOE RIORDAN (Riordan).

Mr BEATTIE says it's important for outsiders to oversee the cleanout as they haven't
been involved in the day-to-day machinations of the vote-rigging mess.

Tonight four preselection ballots open for ALP candidates in the seats of Springwood,
Capalaba, Redlands and Thuringowa.

But the premier vows the preselection process, which is expected to be finalised by
Christmas, will bypass the usual factional deals.
